Ductless mini-split HVAC system with outdoor unit and indoor wall-mounted air handler

The basics

What is a mini-split?

A ductless mini-split is a great option for homes that aren't set up for traditional forced-air equipment. It can serve as whole-home heating and cooling, or condition just one space — a room addition, finished basement, bonus room, garage, or any renovated area that isn't tied into existing ductwork.

The system pairs an outdoor heat pump or AC unit with one or more indoor air handlers that mount on the wall or ceiling and deliver heated or cooled air right into the room. Because they skip ductwork — a major source of energy loss — mini-splits run far more efficiently than window units or baseboard heaters.

Is it right for you?

A mini-split may be a fit if…

Ductless gives you flexible comfort where central systems can't reach. It's worth considering when:

  • You want comfort in an area not tied to your central HVAC
  • Different people want different temperatures
  • Your home has no ductwork — or no room for it
  • Certain rooms stay too hot or too cold

The upside

Advantages of going ductless

Energy Efficiency

No duct leaks means very little wasted energy. Less power to heat and cool your home translates to lower utility bills and a smaller footprint.

Individual Comfort

Each indoor unit has its own control, so family members can set the temperature they want in their own space — something a single-thermostat system can't do.

Quiet Operation

Mini-split air handlers run quietly and blend into the background while holding a steady, comfortable temperature.

Straight talk

The honest downsides

We'd rather you have the full picture than be surprised later. Mini-splits aren't perfect for every home:

More frequent maintenance. Each indoor air handler has its own filter that needs cleaning or replacing regularly — usually monthly — which is a bit more upkeep than a central system's single filter.

Aesthetics. Styles have come a long way, but some homeowners still prefer hidden ductwork over a visible wall-mounted indoor unit.

Higher up-front cost. Installation can cost more initially than a standard furnace or AC. That said, the high efficiency and targeted comfort often make up for it over the life of the system.

Service for the life of the system

Repairs, maintenance & upgrades

If your ductless system isn't heating or cooling properly, is making unusual noises, or just isn't performing, our NATE-certified technicians repair all brands and models of ductless heat pumps and mini-splits — restoring comfort and efficiency.

Like any HVAC system, mini-splits need regular maintenance to perform their best. We recommend a spring tune-up for cooling and a fall tune-up for heating to keep the system efficient and reduce wear on key components. And when it's time to replace an older ductless system — or convert from a traditional setup — we'll help you choose the right equipment and install it to run reliably for years.

What our install includes

Done properly, tested before we leave

A mini-split lives or dies on the installation. These are the steps we don’t skip:

  • On-site sizing — capacity matched to the actual space, not guessed
  • Indoor head mounted level and positioned for real airflow
  • Outdoor condenser set on a pad or wall bracket, clear of snow and debris
  • Line set run and sealed, with line-hide cover where it’s visible
  • Vacuum pulled on the refrigerant lines — the step that gets skipped, and the reason systems fail early
  • Charge verified with gauges, then heating and cooling both tested
  • Controller set up and walked through with you before we go
  • Licensed & insured — Ohio License #30745

Mini-split questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does a ductless mini-split cost to install in Ohio?
A single-zone mini-split installation typically runs about $4,000 to $7,000 installed in Central Ohio, depending on capacity, brand, and how far the indoor unit sits from the outdoor condenser. Multi-zone systems that serve several rooms cost more. We give free, no-pressure quotes after seeing the space — call (614) 855-9010.
Can a mini-split heat a garage or workshop through an Ohio winter?
Yes. Modern cold-climate mini-split heat pumps produce useful heat well below freezing, which covers most of an Ohio winter, and they cool the same space in summer. A garage or shop that has never had real heating or cooling is one of the most common reasons Central Ohio customers call us about ductless.
How long does a mini-split installation take?
Most single-zone installations are completed in one day. We mount the indoor head, set the outdoor condenser on a pad or wall bracket, run and seal the line set, pull a vacuum on the refrigerant lines, verify the charge, and test both heating and cooling before we leave.
Do I need ductwork for a mini-split?
No — that’s the point of ductless. Only a small opening is needed for the refrigerant lines, condensate drain, and power. That makes mini-splits practical for older homes with no ducts, additions where extending ductwork is expensive, and finished spaces you don’t want torn open.
Do you install Mitsubishi mini-splits in Central Ohio?
Yes. We recently installed a Mitsubishi Electric ductless mini-split heat pump at a New Albany property. We install and service every major ductless brand, and because we’re independent we recommend the system that fits your space rather than one manufacturer’s line.
What is a ductless mini-split?
A ductless mini-split is a heating and cooling system that doesn't use ducts. It pairs an outdoor heat pump or AC unit with one or more indoor air handlers mounted on the wall or ceiling, delivering conditioned air straight into the room. It can cool and heat a single space or a whole home.
Can a mini-split both heat and cool my home?
Yes. Most mini-splits are heat pumps, so the same system cools in summer and heats in winter — making them a year-round comfort solution, not just an air conditioner.
Are ductless mini-splits more efficient?
Generally, yes. Ducts are a major source of energy loss, and mini-splits skip them entirely, so less energy is wasted heating or cooling your home. That usually means lower utility bills and a smaller footprint.
Where does a mini-split make the most sense?
Great fits include room additions, finished basements, bonus rooms, garages, and renovated areas with no ductwork — plus rooms that always run too hot or too cold, and homes where different people want different temperatures.
Do you repair all mini-split brands?
Yes. Our NATE-certified technicians repair all brands and models of ductless heat pumps and mini-split systems, restoring comfort and efficiency.
How often does a mini-split need maintenance?
We recommend a spring tune-up for cooling and a fall tune-up for heating. Each indoor air handler also has its own filter that should be cleaned regularly — usually monthly — to keep the system efficient.
